The topic came up during Luffy's final battle with Kaidō. The Emperor was amused by the ridiculous new feats provided khổng lồ the Straw Hat captain through his Devil Fruit Awakening. Despite this, however, he remained unconvinced that the boy had the nguồn needed to lớn conquer.

In order khổng lồ back up his claim, Kaidō cited Gold Roger. As it turns out, Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, didn't have a Devil Fruit nguồn of his own. As far as power is concerned, he got khổng lồ the vị trí cao nhất with his raw strength và his mastery of Haki.

Obviously, the first thing Kaidō's statement does is debunk every theory fans had about what Roger's Devil Fruit was if he actually had one. Many of these theories revolved around him being the previous inheritor of an established Devil Fruit. There were all sorts of Fruits suggested for this, including the Flame-Flame Fruit, the Pump-Pump Fruit, và the Op-Op Fruit. Since Roger is dead by the start of the series, the Fruit could be just about anything shown on-screen.

Some even theorized that he had Luffy's very own Gum-Gum Fruit. This would have explained a number of things, including why Shanks và the World Government wanted it so badly. This theory was both the most prevalent and the most contested.

Besides preestablished Devil Fruits, many fans theorized that Roger might have had some unconfirmed Fruit based on hints sprinkled throughout the narrative. One theory suggested that he had some sort of weather-controlling Devil Fruit; it was further speculated that this Fruit was passed on khổng lồ Monkey D. Dragon, who also seems khổng lồ have some sort of wind-based powers. Another theory suggested that he had control of waves; this could be taken lớn mean ocean waves, but it could also mean brainwaves, radio waves, & so on. Both of these theories have been used to explain the freak storm that aided him in his fight with Shiki the Golden Lion. There are all sorts of theories like this lớn explain all the strange things that supposedly happened during Roger's journey.

In fairness, there were plenty of reasons to lớn believe that Roger actually did have a Devil Fruit. It would certainly explain why none of his fights were ever fully shown on-screen; it would have given away his ability too soon. It would make sense not lớn reveal every thẻ in Roger's hand until the time was right.

Of course, there were also plenty of people who assumed Roger didn't have a Devil Fruit. They either felt there wasn't any strong evidence or thought that he'd be much cooler without one. These people can pat themselves on the back for being right about this.

By confirming that one of the most powerful characters in One Piece never had a Fruit, a lot of things change about how strength is defined in the series. The biggest change comes in how Haki is viewed. For a time, Devil Fruits were considered the main nguồn system of One Piece while Haki was a handy secondary power nguồn system. By confirming that Roger never had a Fruit, this dynamic has been completely reversed.

This alteration lớn the power dynamic of One Piece also changes the ways that certain characters are viewed. For example, fans had been arguing for a long time over whether the Straw Hat Pirates could use an nâng cấp since half the crew doesn't have a Devil Fruit to lớn speak of. Now that Devil Fruits are no longer the be-all và end-all of One Piece, these crew members can get strong in their own ways and don't have lớn be the subject of such debates.

Likewise, many other characters who apparently don't have Devil Fruits can be seen for the strength they definitely have. Characters like Rayleigh, Garp, & Mihawk are certainly praised for how strong they are, but there was always that question of what they would be lượt thích with a Devil Fruit. Now that the preconception that anybody would be better with a Devil Fruit has been shattered, these people can be fully appreciated for how awesome they are in their own right.

Confirming Roger never had a Devil Fruit also brings into question all other theories about what other characters' Devil Fruits might be. There are plenty of characters throughout One Piece who are thought to lớn have a secret, unconfirmed Devil Fruit just like Roger. Such characters include Red-Haired Shanks, Dragon, Rocks D. Xebec, và Ryokugyu. Now that it's confirmed that Devil Fruits aren't necessary to achieve greatness, it's entirely possible that all or none of these people have any actual Devil Fruit powers. Of course, this also means that all of these people shrouded in mystery have become even more obfuscated.

The same can be said for certain pirate crews. The Roger Pirates & the Red Hair Pirates, in particular, are noted for not having any confirmed Devil Fruit users among their ranks. The only exception khổng lồ this rule is Buggy. As is the case with their captains, it's possible that all or none of them have Devil Fruits. Combining the fact that they were conceived in the early days of One Piece, before Devil Fruits were the norm, with what's known now, the latter option is entirely possible.

Roger's Devil Fruit status may have been dropped in a relatively casual way, but it's still enough khổng lồ rock the One Piece fandom khổng lồ its core. Many had their thoughts và theories about what Roger would be lượt thích with or without a Fruit. However, having him confirmed lớn not have a Devil Fruit sets the stage for all sorts of new thoughts and theories regarding the rest of the series. It also changes the mindset of how Devil fruits are viewed as a power nguồn system among fans. This one passive lore drop has made the world and the future of One Piece both clearer and more uncertain than ever.
